The East Campus Discovery Days and Farmers Market at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln is a fun, family-friendly event for all ages. It’s more than a farmer’s market. It’s more than a science day. Come for the hands-on, science focused fun. Stay to enjoy live music and food trucks. Shop at our farmers market and vendor fair. Enjoy a scoop of ice cream at the newly renovated UNL Dairy Store. Take in the beauty of the Backyard Farmer garden. Activities are free, food and crafts are available for purchase.
Goals
The East Campus Discovery Days and Farmers Market was conceptualized by the Institute of Agriculture and Naturals Resources (IANR) at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) offering the east campus community, neighbors and friends access to science literacy opportunities, locally produced fresh food, value-added artisans and access to on-campus family fun activities.
As part of the university’s N2025 strategic plan, community engagement and external constituency support is an important mission. The NEW East Campus Discovery Days and Farmers Market is an opportunity for the university to engage with community members, build relationships and promote science literacy. The goals of these events include:
- providing locally produced nutritious foods to community members,
- providing avenue for farmers and producers to sell their produce,
- providing science literacy opportunities for youth,
- providing a safe, fun, entertaining environment for people of all ages, and
- providing opportunities for students.
IANR will unite producers, artisans, community partners and consumers to meet these goals.
